Cagayan De Oro City Tradition's


  • The legend of the Cagayan de Oro river
    The elders of the city claim that the pier and the river are connected by an underground tunnel. According to legend, a priest was discovered at the pier after taking a bath in the river and going missing. The "de Oro" component of the city's name is claimed to be explained by the golden fish in the river. 
  • The "City of Golden Friendship"
    he "City of Golden Friendship" is the moniker given to Cagayan de Oro due of its amiable and hospitable citizens.
  • Sinuglaw
    This well-known meal combines grilled pork with ceviche, or kinilaw, prepared with spices like suwa and tabon tabon. Nearly every restaurant in the city serves it.

    citizens identifying as such. 
The Fiesta
  • An important event that unites the community and promotes solidarity, friendship, and a strong feeling of tradition and identity is the barangay fiesta. Religious processions, mass, novenas, and other religious rites honoring the patron saint are among the events that take place during the barangay fiesta.


  • Higalaay Festival
    • This festival is held annually on August 28th to celebrate the feast day of St. Augustine, the city's patron saint. It was previously called the Kagay-an Festival.
